I would like to introduce you to our February 2018 Author Mommy!
JENNY FLAKE RABE
She writes adult contemporary romance and Middle grade books.
Her published works are:
And she has two short stories in two different anthologies.
She is an author mommy of small kids and understands how busy that is. 😀 Her biggest struggle with doing both is mom guilt. She says, Mom guilt is real. I very often feel that the time I spend on writing should be spent on my babies instead. That’s why when I do choose to write, I have to make every minute worth it and not waste my precious time. And when I do waste my time…more mom guilt..”
When I asked her about how she balances her writing and mom life she said, “Writing when the kids are napping or asleep is the most guilt-free time I have. But then the husband guilt kicks in. I can’t win :)”
I asked her for a story about being both a writer and a mom and she had this to say, “I love giving service, and since I have two young kids, it is hard to give back without asking for help in the process. I have formed an online writing community (LDS Beta Readers) where I can give back frequently to the writing community. I may not be able to get out physically, but virtually, I am doing my best.”
(If you are interested in looking at the LDS Beta Readers writing group, check it out on Facebook! :D)
Her biggest tip: “Fight the mom guilt. There is only one person who makes you feel that darkness inside. I have to remember that anything that is good and uplifting is from Christ. And when you do have time to write, value that time and make the most of it.”
Her advice for actually writing verses learning how to write better was, “I am still working on that, but I do not that if you don’t make time to read and study about writing, your effective writing time will decrease.”
Thanks Jenny! And guess what if you like Jenny’s work she has a new book coming out soon, called Diving for love! To keep updated on that find Jenny on her Facebook page.
