IT IS OKAY TO TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF!
Okay admit it, as a mom it is hard for us to take time for ourselves. This is especially true if we have more then one child. We get caught up in their lives and doing everything we need to do for them. I am not saying its a bad thing but I do think we need to make sure we take some time for ourselves. For some of us that might mean a bubble bath, or a fun book everyone in a while. For others (writers) that means taking time to also work on your goals and your dreams. But when life is crazy its hard to stay motivated to write. Lets face it writing is hard! Its fun and rewarding but hard. And honestly at the end of the day after the kids are finally asleep, its a hard decision between watching a show and eating a bowl of Ice cream or sitting down to work on your own project.
WHAT TO DO:
Find your motivation, grant yourself permission, and think positively.
It is different for everyone and every writer. But if you know why you love to write and why it is worth all the struggle to make it a part of your life then it will be so much easier to do.
So many of us have what might be called mom guilt, when we take time for ourselves and our own dreams. It is a normal thing to feel. Unfortunately it also is hurtful to us. If you are making sure you take care of your kids and family, then it is okay to take time for yourself even if it is only a few minutes. In fact taking time for yourself here and there can possibly make you a better mom, because you mood will be better. You have to take care of yourself so you can take care of you. So give yourself permission to take some time on your dreams. That might not mean that you can take 2 hours to write every day right now. But that might mean that you can read a book about writing while your kids are in the tub. Or spend 25 minutes a day writing. Just know that it is okay to take time. And it is good for your kids to see that their mom is following her dreams. It helps them hope to follow their own.
Having the motivation and the permission is all well and good, but sometimes we need a little more. We need positive words to help us reach our goals. It can be anything but it has to hit you good and strong. My biggest positive word is believe. I believe I can do it all. I have it on a bracelet I wear nearly everyday and on a sparkly word by my writing desk. It helps me stay motivated as a mom and a writer.
Other ideas for positive words:
- I can do this
- I will find a way to make this work
- Its okay to take time for myself.
- I am allowed to dream
- I can do both
- I will figure out the balance
- I am strong, powerful and creative
- I am a good mom
- I will fulfill my dream
- I’m teaching them by example to reach for the stars.
